Presentation : Lancashire dialects.

This dialect is also called Lanky, and spreads from Greater Manchester to Merseyside and Cumbria : an region that emerged during the Industrial Revolution as a major commercial and industrial area.  The dialects of south Lancashire were influenced by the development of large urban areas as Liverpool or Manchester.

There are many occurences between Lancashire and Yorkshire dialects but is important to be aware that they are still very different.

Here are some useful links for Lancashire, first this BBS Voices article with local recordings of people from the area, also there are this local dictionary and finally this video that sounded very interesting to me.

Examples :

Joseph Gilgun :

He is an actor playing important roles in a few TV series as Preacher in 2016, but earlier in Misfits and This is England. According to this discussion he has a Lancashire near from a Yorkshire accent. The first extract is from Misfits, and the second from This is England where I think his accent is the most pronounced.

Christopher Eccleston :

He from Salford (Lancashire) which is very near from Manchester. He is a well known actor that played in the famous Doctor Who TV show, the great eXistenZ, but also the less known Cracker TV series. His accent is much different from Joseph Gilgun's but it is still a Lancashire local dialect wich is not so accurate.

It is important to say that Scouse is a Lancashire local dialect because Liverpool is a part of it.
